Every election gets branded “the most consequential election of our time”, but the 2025 election might actually fit the bill.

Everyone’s focus will be on the House of Representatives, since that’s where government is formed and where all the drama and theatre happens. And this time, with a possible minority government on the cards, there’s a lot of drama to be had.

BUT, where the election could be most consequential is the Senate. The Australian Senate is one of the most powerful chambers of government in the world. We helped transform it into the powerful house of review it is today, when we were awarded the balance of power in the Senate for the first time in 1980.

We’re looking to return to the Senate, to take up our role of being the people’s watchdog once again, and ensuring that the legislation that passes through the Senate serves the needs and interests of the Australian people, and will actually achieve the outcomes that the government of the day says it will.

As a minor party not linked to any major party, we need all the support we can get to make fundamental changes that positively affect Australians.

We don't do preference deals and aren't here to redirect votes to the majors.

So when it’s time to cast your vote, don’t forget the Senate. And don’t forget to vote 1 for the Australian Democrats on your white Senate ballot paper, so we can all keep the bastards honest 😉
