We burst onto the Australian political arena in 1977 and secured the balance of power in 1980. Since then, we’ve made our mark on Australian history and improved life for all Australians, serving fearlessly in the federal Senate for 30 years.

Paid versus free

As a party we’re funded entirely by our members and supporters. We have no big corporate donors, and receive no taxpayer funding since we’re not in parliament at the moment. And historically we’ve been really terrible at asking people for money.

Having a paid option is about enabling people to support the work here, and through this work support our journey back to parliament, since contesting elections is our raison d'être. Our articles are freely available but if you can afford it, and if you get some value from what is written here, a paid sub makes a huge difference to us, since elections are not cheap, and are becoming increasingly difficult to contest as the two party duopoly tightens their grip on the electoral process to maintain their hold on our democracy.
